Вот что пишет о чешуйчатых панцирях Э. Снодграсс (A. Snodgrass. Arms and Armor of the Greeks. Baltimor and London, 1999. P. 91):
It is not easy to tell how far it was metallic, and a considerable variety in materials was evidently possible for the main part of the corslet, from the neck-line to the waist. One variant of the corslet had this zone partly covered in metal scales, either small and shaped like a fish’s, or larger and oblong. This is the first important use in Greece of a long-lived and widely favoured form protection. It was worn by many Near Eastern peoples, including the Persians (…), and its home according to Herodotus was Egypt; it was adopted in two areas on the edge of the Greek world, Cyprus and Crimea. But in Greece proper, actual fragments are seldom found, and we cannot tell whether they belonged to all-scale corslets on the Oriental model, or to partly-scaled ones of the new Greek type.
