Thanks for the compliments.
Yes you are correct. The falchion in the picture has the cutting edge on
top. Most people think that the falchion had the cutting edge on the other
side, but some period illustrations (like f.e. the Courtrai Chest) show that
indeed the short side was the sharp one.
The falchion in the picture hangs in the Musйe de l'Armйe in Paris. The
caption in the museum says it is a 15th century falchion, but I think they
are wrong. The blade, crossguard and pommel are all typical for the late
13th - early 14th century. It is just looks too exactly like the one on the
chest. Do mind that the crossguard hangs loose because the hilt gives no
support anymore (disappeared).
The picture is taken by me however and if you want to use it, you need to
give me credit for it.
